An eight-day-long winter special camp for creating awareness among students with regard to various government-sponsored schemes commenced at Government Degree College (GDC) Jindrah here on Monday.
The camp has been organized by the NSS unit of the college. The Tehsildar Dansal, Dhruv Majahan was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the camp, while the Principal of the College, Professor Rajshree Dhar presided over the event. The camp is being conducted under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, who is the Programme officer of NSS unit.
BDC Dansal Chairperson, Reena Thapa; Sarpanch Janakha Panchayat, Kuldeep Sharma; Sarpanch Jhajjar Khotli Panchayat, Nisha Devi; Sarpanch Churta Panchayat, Capt Payare Lal; Sarpanch Dhan Panchayat, Omkar Singh; Sarpanch Kishenpur Panchayat, Romal Singh; Sarpanch Kathar (Upper) Panchayat, Balbir Singh; prominent people comprising Omkar Singh Jandrahia, Chander Moli Sharma, Kishori Lal, Advocate Sunil Thapa and Medical Officer PHC Jandrah Shafeen Koul were among others who attended the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhruv Mahajan described the camp as a good initiative to create awareness among students, saying it would help in disseminating valuable information with regard to various government schemes among the local people. He also extended all possible support from his office to the college management for such events in near future.
The Principal, Professor Rajshree Dhar congratulated the NSS unit of the college for holding such a meaningful camp and said such programmes help students keep abreast of present policies of the government. She said that such events also provide the much-needed platform for students to interact with the functionaries of different departments which add to their (students) knowledge.
Giving a brief description about eight-day-long camp, Dr Sunil Sharma said that the officers from Agriculture department, Horticulture department, EDI and Red Cross Society would visit the college and enlighten the students about various government schemes so that they (students) get it further disseminated among the local populace.
Dr Sharma said that literary persons would also visit the college during the camp, besides a day-long trekking would be organized. He also disclosed that the NSS unit of the college has adopted the Devak Heritage where they would hold regular cleanliness drives.
The BDC chairperson, all the Sarpanches, local residents Ajay Sharma and Raman Mehra donated Rs 1,100 each to the NSS unit of the college.
Earlier, the Assistant Professor Dr Seema Lalotra welcomed all the participants, while vote of thanks was presented by Assistant Professor Deepika Sharma.
The faculty members of the college, Assistant Professors Poonam Renu, Paramjeet Singh, Rajeev Katoch, Ashok Sharma, Jasnit Kour, Chanchal Singh and Mega Arora were also present on the occasion.
