The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar has opened for public on Saturday, March 23. The garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh is also Asia's largest tulip garden.
73 varieties of tulips
This year, the garden will have a total of 73 varieties of tulips. The authorities have added five new varieties of tulips to the existing 68 varieties in the garden. The department has also increased the area under the tulip garden by adding another two lakh bulbs.
17 lakh tulips
A record 17 lakh tulip bulbs have been planted in the garden that spreads over 55 hectares of land, the officials said.
The tulip garden is ensconced between Dal Lake and Zabarwan Hills.
Other flowers in tulip garden
Other spring flowers, such as hyacinths, daffodils, muscari and cyclamens, will also be on display to add to the variety of flowers and colours in the garden, they said.
