The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), responding to China's claims on the events in the Galwan valley area, on Saturday said the Indian side has never undertaken any actions across the Line of Actual Control (LAC). "The Indian side has never undertaken any actions across the LAC. In fact, they have been patrolling this area for a long time without any incident. All infrastructure built by the Indian side is naturally on its own side of the LAC," The MEA said in a statement.
The clash in Galwan Valley was the worst cross border confrontation between the two sides in 45 years. While India lost 20 soldiers, China's People's Liberation Army has not yet talked about the number of casualties it suffered.
The MEA said that the Indian troops are fully familiar with the alignment of LAC in all sectors of India-China border areas, including in GalwanValley. "They abide by it scrupulously here, as they do elsewhere," MEA said on Chinese Spokesperson's 19 June statement on the events in the Galwan Valley area.
"The position with regard to Galwan Valley area has been historically clear. Attempts by Chinese side to now advance exaggerated & untenable claims with regard to LAC there aren't acceptable. They aren't in accordance with China’s own past position," it added.
The External Affair further claimed that since early May 2020, Chinese have been hindering India's normal patrolling pattern in the area and this resulted in face-off which was addressed by ground commanders. "We don't accept the contention that India was unilaterally changing status quo, we were maintaining it."
