Congress observed Indira Gandhi’s 36th Martyrdom Day as “Kissan Adhikar Diwas” and organized Satyagrah in all Dist. Headquarters of the state, today. The Main function was held at Indira Chowk, organized by District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu.
JKPCC Vice President  and former Minister Shri Raman Bhalla  along with senior functionaries of PCC, DCC and other senior  leaders of the party including frontal organizations offered floral tributes to Smt. India Gandhi.Rich tributes were also paid to Sardar Patel, one of the greatest stalwarts of the country, on his birth anniversary today. His services in the freedom struggle and in the strengthening and consolidation of the country after independence were recalled.To mark the occasion of death anniversary of Smt. Indira Gandhi Congress party organized a strong protest demonstrations at all the District Headquarters. Congress leaders and workers led by Mr. Raman Balla  marched towards  the Civil Secretariat, raising slogans to protest against the recently amended J&K land laws and new  farmers bills passed  in the parliament. Scuffles were witnessed between peacefully protesting Congress workers and police force. The protestors were stopped  by the police  near Shalimar Chowk, where Mr. Bhalla addressed the workers and media.Mr. Bhalla said that the recently amended J&K land laws are anti people, anti-poor and anti Jammu.  He described this move of BJP Govt. as their sheer frustration and deviation from what  Shri Narinder Modi, the Prime Minister of the Country promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Bhala reminded BJP of the promises  made by Shri Modi about the safety and guarantee of jobs and land of Jammu and Kashmir, at the time of revocation of Article 370. He said that these laws are discriminatory in nature and questioned the BJP’s one nation one constitution slogan, when, there are  different  land laws in Himachal Pradesh , Uttra khand and North-eastern states of India. He warned the government not to test the patience of peace loving citizens of Jammu and Kashmir by snatching their  land and jobs.  He demanded an immediate review of these laws ensuring guarantee and safety of the land and resources of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that more than  62 crores farmers are up in arms against the Modi Govt’s new legislations, which are against the overall economic interests of the farmers in the Country. Instead of fulfilling the promise to double their income, the Modi Govt. has taken anti farmer steps against  the  BJP promise of 50% MSP over production cost, contrary to Swaminathan Commission recommenda tions. This is highly retrograde steps towards farmers and Congress party under leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi is fully behind farmers who are agitating for their just cause.  He urged the BJP Govt. to review the recently bills passed related to Farmers and Agriculture Sector of the Country and told the gathering that Congress party will fight for the rights of  farmers of this nation till these black laws are not taken back or reviewed.

 

Shri Raman Bhalla while paying floral tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi remembered her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that Smt. Gandhi created history by providing an able and dynamic leadership to the Country and was acknowledged a strong and visionary leader in the world. She will always be remembered as a leader of masses with strong commitment to the upliftment of poor and down trodden and devotion  to the cause of nation and did not succumb against any pressures at the cost of the unity and integrity of the nation.

 

He recalled her historical contributions in the form of Shimla agreement, which binds Pakistan to settle all outstanding issues with India including Kashmir through bilateral means, strengthening of Non Aliened Movement (NAM) in the World,  besides librating Bangladesh for which her leadership was commended. He said that Congressmen should remain committed and strengthen the principles for which Indira Ji lived and sacrificed her life.

 

 

Shri Yogesh Sawhney while paying rich tributes to Smt. Induira Gandhi  recalled her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country and said that she enhanced the image of India in the community of nations by her farsightedness through which  India emerged as a strong nation under her leadership. He also laid stress on strengthening the principle for which Congress party and Smt. Indira Gandhi always stood for and laid down her life to fight against the forces of communalism and fundamentalism which pose threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

 

He said that Smt. Indira Gandhi had a special affection towards Jammu and Kashmir like her father Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and it was the reason that people of this State had  special respect in her leadership and that of the Gandhi-Nehru family and their leadership and principles. It is the respect and trust in the leadership which binds the people of this great and vast country having many diversities. She was truly the leader of the all sections of plural Indian society and stood by her principles and laid down her life for the same.

 

 

On this occasion Senior leaders Smt. Kanta Bhan, Th. Balwan Singh,  Rajnish Sharma, Th. Manmohan Singh,  Smt. Indu Pawar   (President Mahila Congress), Ch. Gharu Ram- Chairman Kissan Congress, Rajesh Sadotra -  Chief Organizer Seva Dal,  highlighted the achievements of Smt. Indira Gandhi and described her as an iron lady, an able administrator and great visionary leader. They said that Indira Ji was symbol of women empowerment in the country and always framed policies and programmes aimed at the upliftment of , Farmers, poor and down trodden. She launched various schemes for the welfare and development of poor population of the country including her twenty point campaign for them.
