District Development Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer conducted a special drive from Kathua to Dayalachak to check the variation in the quantity of fuel dispensed at various petrol bunks along the National Highway.

During the drive conducted in presence of officials of Legal Metrology, Weights and Measures and Revenue department, it was found that the fire extinguishers were not calibrated properly and they were not in operational condition. No objection Certificate (NoC) from Fire and Emergency Services was also missing.

DDC directed the petrol bunk owners to seek permission of commercial bore pumps from the concerned department to regularize their use with installation of bulk meters along the bore pumps. He also directed the owners to provide basic amenities at Petrol Pumps like Toilet Complex, Drinking Water facility and free air for vehicles. He also asked them for strict adherence to prescribed quality and quantity parameters.

The DC verified daily sale record, stock status, explosive license and density of petrol/diesel.

The DC asked to conduct awareness programs for handling of fire extinguishers at petrol bunks and proper calibration of fire extinguishers must be sought from the concerned department.

The inspected petrol bunks included Bihari Lal Somnath at Kalibari, Kathua and Karamchand Saraf & Sons at Dayalachak, Kathua.

Later, the DDC took an extensive round of Kathua town and interacted with the people taking stock of their issues and concerns.

He also paid a surprise visit to CTM Labor colony and interacted with the inhabitants there.

DDC also held a brief discussion with medical students of GMC Kathua and inquired about facilities concerning their studies, transportation and lodging.
