Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh today visitedSopore town of Baramulla district. He was accompanied by IGP Armed/IRP KashmirShri Vijay Kumar. He briefed the press regarding the arrest of a localterrorist in a joint operation and also inspected the Police Station Soporebuilding and reviewed the crime, law & order and functioning of the PoliceStation.

While addressing the media the DGP Sh Dilbag  Singh said that  he had come to meet the officers and jawansof Police army and CAPF  who by remainingalert and by different search operations and area domination have been able toclean up the area.He said there a still a few elements who are trying to createfear among the people,fruit traders and shopkeepers.He said that situation hasimproved a lot a shops are opening up in most parts of the valley.

He said that he has also come to Sopore to congratulated theforces who have arrested a local terrorist of LeT outfit namely Danish TariqChanna resident of Stadium Colony, Old Town Baramulla.He was arrested by SoporePolice along with the contingent of 22-RR and 179 Bn CRPF. He said theterrorist had recently joined the LeT outfit on the motivation of one localself-styled LeT commander namely Sajad Ahmad Mir @ Hyder and was active withinthe jurisdiction of Police District Sopore and District Baramulla with otherLeT operatives. The terrorist was apprehended along with arms and ammunitionwhich include one Pistol, Pistol Magzine and seven rounds of Pistol ammunitionand one Grenade.

The DGP while congratulating the Sopore Police, Army of 22-RR and CRPF personnel from 179 Bn said that Sopore Town was once known forterrorist activities but today it is known for its peace and calmness. It isonly because of joint efforts of security forces and cooperation from the peaceloving people of the area, he said. The DGP said that the people’s cooperationand their support to security forces is appreciable in maintaining peace, law& order of the area. The DGP thanked the local people for their role in prevailingpeace, law & order in the area. The DGP said Police along with Army andother security forces are doing excellent work in controlling the law &order situations.

The DGP also visited the Police Station Sopore wherein hechaired a meeting of the jurisdictional officers in the office of SHO andreviewed the crime, registration of FIRs, law & order situation and recordbuilding of the police station.  In themeeting the DGP stressed for pacing up of the operations against the terroristsand against those who are involved in disrupting peace and order. He directedfor ensuring people friendly atmosphere and order.

The DGP also inspected the building premises of the policestation and gave certain on spot direction for the renovation/construction ofthe building. He interacted with the personnel from MHC and inspected thefunctioning of CCTNS and CCTV

Earlier the DGP was received by the DIG NKR Baramulla  Shri M. Suleiman Choudhary and SSP SoporeShri Javaid Iqbal at Police Station Sopore. The officers briefed the DGP aboutthe current security scenario of the area.
