DPIIT, Govt of India appreciate SKUAST-Jammu

Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has appreciated SKUAST- Jammu for exceptional contribution in successfully organizing the awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Independence under the banner “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J. P. Sharma congratulates Director Research and his team for receiving appreciation at national level and advised to organize such type of activities in future also. He also highlighted the importance of filing patents and protecting innovations and said that these programmes are beneficial for faculty and students.

The programme was organized in association with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Government of India, Nagpur, Maharashtra The workshop was conducted by Pooja Vishal Maulikar, Examiner of Patents and Designs, RGNIIPM, Nagpur. Maulikar in her talk gave an overview of IP offices, trainings imparted by RGNIIPM, types of intellectual property, patent specification structure and documents required for patent filing. She also discussed about basic fee structure, patent grant procedure and registration of designs.

Earlier, Director Research, Prof. Pardeep Wali threw light on the different initiatives taken in this direction under the guidance of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. He further added that steps are being taken to strengthen the IPR cell of the University for facilitating the scientists and scholars in filing patents.

The workshop was attended by more than 120 participants comprising of faculty members and students from SKUAST Jammu and neighbouring institutions and coordinated by Prof. R. K. Salgotra, Coordinator, School of Biotechnology and Prof. Manish Kumar Sharma, Head, Division of Statistics and Computer Science. Vote-of-Thanks was presented by Prof. Sanjay Guleria, Faculty Incharge, Counselling and Placement cell and Head, Division of Biochemistry who was also convener of the workshop.
