It was a contest of fightbacks between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals, between Mayank Agarwal and Marcus Stoinis that led to the 1st Super Over of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. In the final over of the tied contest, it was Stoinis vs Agarwal and the Australian all-rounder got the better of the India opener as he picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls to force a Super Over.

Stoinis, on his dream Delhi Capitals debut, defended 1 run in the last 3 balls. Everything went his way as 2 full-tosses got him as many wickets, including that of Mayank Agarwal in the penultimate over of the tied contest.

Kings XI Punjab got their strategy wrong for the Super Over as they did not send Mayank Agarwal, who had hit 89 from 60 to rescue the side from a dire status.

Kagiso Rabada, bowling the Super Over for Delhi Capitals, needed only 3 balls as he got captain Rahul out before shattering the stumps of Nicholas Pooran. Agarwal, who was visibly tired during his heroic knock, watched it all from outside the rope. KXIP were bowled out for 2, the lowest Super Over total in the history of the league.

With just 3 runs needed, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant walked out and got the job done with ease to give Delhi Capitals 2 points and the early momentum they would have been hoping for.

Stoinis starred with the bat, R Ashwin bowled a first over out of a dream before walking off with a shoulder injury, Axar Patel was miserly when Kagiso Rabada proved his worth yet again.

The manner in which Delhi Capitals won would possibly overshadow the moment when they were in deep trouble after KXIP won the toss and decided to field. Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, and Shimron Hetmyer were dismissed inside the first 4 overs before Rishabh Pant joined forces with Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer to steer the team's recovery.
