Hizbul Mujahidin Operation Chief Dr Saifullah has been killed in an encounter in Srinagar's Rangreth area.
Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told India Today that the Chief commander of Hizb has been killed while one militant associate has been apprehended alive in the encounter.
Earlier, Reports said that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Rangreth.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the security forces, triggering off a gunfight.
Saifullah Mir alias Ghazi Haider alias Doctor Sahab had joined Hizbul Mujahideen in October 2014 and hails from Malangpora in Pulwama. He was recruited by Riaz Naikoo and given the name Ghazi Haider.
