Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said that infiltration from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) has come down this summer mainly due to strict vigil being maintained by the security forces guarding the Line of Control (LoC) despite repeated attempts being made by Pakistan Army to send militants into this side under the cover of darkness.

The number of local youths joining militancy has also witnessed decrease because of the motivation by the police and people, DGP said adding this year 26 youths, who had joined militant outfit have shunned the path of violence and joined the mainstream to lead a normal and peaceful life.

He said because of the strict vigil being maintained by counter-infiltration grid and other security forces, the number of infiltration from POK has come down. He said there are large number of militants waiting in launch pads at LoC to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed. However, we are maintaining strict vigil to foil any such attempt. But, he said, some militants have managed to enter this side.

A senior Army officer present at the press conference said majority militants were killed by the alert security forces immediately after they sneaked into this side from POK. In the hinterland security forces were able to carry out successful operation against militants during which over a dozen top commanders were killed.

DGP Singh said that with the active support of locals, 16 youths were brought back after they joined militancy this year. We are providing counseling and all other help to lead a normal life in the society.
