Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured its first victory in Srinagar as counting of votes continued for 280 District Development Council (DDC) seats in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. BJP candidate Engineer Aijaz Hussain won from the Khonmoh-II constituency in Balhama area of Srinagar.
Former union minister Shahnawaz Hussain confirmed the BJP's victory in Srinagar. "The first lotus has bloomed in Kashmir! Engineer Aijaz Hussain wins from Khanmoh II, Srinagar, Kashmir by a good margin," he tweeted.
Moments later, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav took to his official Twitter handle and congratulated Aijaz Hussain for the win.
"Congratto Aijaz Hussain, national Vice President, BJYM for winning d first seat from Balhama in Srinagar in DDC elections," he said.
