Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jammu has organized a World Bicycle Day at War Memorial, Gurha Slathia, in collaboration with Vir Partap Singh Guidance and Counseling Cell, Gurha Slathia , Samba  . The Bicycle Rally started from Gurah Slathia and reached Brig. Rajinder Park, Bagoona, which was selected as the iconic place of Jammu & Kashmir, and again back to War Memorial, Gurah Slathia where it was concluded.  For creating awareness among the people about how seriously the environment is polluted due to the emission of poisonous gases from various automobiles, industries and factories, with increasing number of vehicles the environment is being polluted with the poisonous gases that are emitted from those vehicles and several species of living organisms on verge of extinction due to pollution effect, more than 90 participants participated in the Bicycle Rally to protect the environment from the pollution caused by motor vehicles on a global scale every day. Promoting cycling in a country with a large population like ours will promote fitness and environmental protection measures. This will also solve problems like traffic jams, increasing tension in the society, and road rage to a large extent. Youth volunteers are being motivated to participate and organize similar cycle rallies in their respective villages and localities on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi. People in general and youth in particular can promote cycle rallies on their social media channels with #Cycling4India and #worldbicycleday2022.
Jugul Kishore Sharma  MP ( Lok Sabha) was the Chief Guest of the programme while Keshav Dutt Sharma DDC Chairman presided over the function. At first Nisar Ahmed Butt, State Director, NYKS welcomed the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour by presenting them a flower and Mementoes. The Chief Guest along with other dignitaries paid floral tribute to the Martyrs at War memorial Gurha Slathia. Jugul Kishore Sharma the Chief Guest flagged off the Rally.  Dr. Rupali Slathia, North Division Coach BCCI (Sports Iconic Personality), Keshav Dutt Sharma DDC Chairman, Sudarshan Slathia, DDC Member, and other dignitaries also accompanied him.  
While addressing the youth Jugul Kishore Sharma highlighted the importance of cycling. He said that cycling can cure the increased cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength and flexibility, improved joint mobility, decreased stress levels, improved posture and coordination, strengthened bones, decreased body fat levels, prevention or management of disease. He further added that the cycling is also helpful for our environment that No Gas, No Pollution. Cycling can be helpful in easing feelings of stress, depression, or anxiety. Cycling is also helpful in social well-being and inculcates the feeling of personal mastery and solidarity. Cycling as a regular activity can help you deal with high blood pressure issues and might avert many heart-related issues. Cycling often helps in boosting your heart’s health and many times minimizes the risk of cardiac arrest and other such issues. Bicycle don't release harmful emissions that pollute the atmosphere, nor any carbon dioxide that contributes to climate change, Harmful Chemicals are reduced, More Bikes Equals Fewer Roads, Noise is also Pollution. He also appreciated the youth for participating in such kind of activities and the work done by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jammu for the upliftment of Youth in Nation Building.
Nisar Ahmed Butt, State Director, NYKS speaking on the occasion said that use of cycle will not only protect the environment from pollution but also helps to keep the body fit and healthy in condition, he pointed out. With environment degradation and global warming debate heating up globally, many countries have taken the lead to following eco-friendly attempts worldwide. In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared 3 June as the World Bicycle Day which was observed as a landmark approach to promote the eco-friendly and sustainable means of transportation globally. The carbon monoxide gases emitted by the vehicles and factories end up being dumped into the lungs of the city residents. So, it is high time that we constructed cycle-friendly lanes in the city areas,” Butt Said. Building cycle lanes and switching to cycling not just has health benefits, it can also help minimize road accidents to a large extent,” he said. The enthusiasm showed by all the participants and even the traffic police and the public, made this event a successful one. It was evident from the faces of the participants who crossed the finish line smiling. After that there was a cultural programme on National Patriotic songs performed by the youth of village Gurha Slathia. MP Jugul Kishore Sharma distributed the certificates to the participants. At last Col. Jaswant Singh (Retd) gave the vote of thanks to the guests and the participants. Other dignitaries, Ms. Priyanka Verma, DSP , Dr. Hitesh, Medical Officer , Sunil Kumar DYSSO, Samba, Jatinder Singh Sarpanch, , and Col. Jaswant Singh and many social workers were also present there.
