 Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan (DSS) founder Choudhary Lal Singh was put under house arrest in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu district. He isthe first leader from Jammu to be place under house jln arrest days after thousands of jawans were deployed in the tense Jammu and Kashmir and article370 was abrogated by BJP led NDA government.

Meanwhile 

Amid a communication shutdown and other restrictions,security agencies have arrested over 100 people, including political leaders and activists, as they were considered a threat to peace and tranquillity inthe Kashmir valley, officials said on Wednesday. “Over 100 political leaders and activists have been arrested in the valley so far,” a senior official ofthe Jammu and Kashmir administration said. He, however, did not give the details of those arrested.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti andOmar Abdullah, who were under house arrest since Sunday night, were placedunder arrest on Monday night as they were considered a threat to thelaw-and-order situation in the state, officials said.Jammu and Kashmir People’sConference leaders Sajjad Lone and Imran Ansari were also arrested, they added.

The arrested leaders were lodged at Hari Niwas, metres away from their Gupkar residences, the officials said.The orders of their arrestwere issued by the magistrates concerned in view of their activities to disturb peace and tranquillity in the Kashmir valley, they added.

The arrests came hours after the Centre announced abrogationof the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted specialstatus to Jammu and Kashmir, and proposed bifurcation of the State into twoUnion territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
