The Doda Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday arrested a man who had gone missing on Tuesday with an AK-47 rifle, belonging to a police officer.
The man was identified as Mohammad Rafi.
A massive manhunt to trace Rafi was launched soon after the police received information about the incident.
The police were also investigating any possible terror angles in the case.
According to the details, Special Police Office (SPO) Safdar Hussain had taken a lift from Mohammad Rafi in his vehicle.
The police officer, who was carrying his weapon, an AK-47 rifle, got down near a flyover in Doda to buy a bottle of water, leaving his weapon in Rafi's car.Rafi fled the spot with the cop's vehicle moments later.
The vehicle was later found near the Jagota area of Bhalla.
The incident comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing many terror-related incidents and the forces are already on high alert.
On Tuesday, the security forces picked up three people, including a couple, for questioning in connection with the movement of terrorists involved in the recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district.
The authorities believe a group of three to four terrorists is present in the higher reaches of the district.
On June 11 night, five soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were injured when terrorists attacked a joint check post in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road.
On Wednesday evening, a police officer was injured when the terrorists opened fire on a search party in the Kota Top village in the Gandoh area of the district.
The security personnel have detained three persons from the Jai area of the Doda district.
