A militant and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were killed in exchange of fire which ensued after ultras attacked a BJP leader in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal on Tuesday.
However, the BJP leader escaped unhurt in the attack.
Official sources said that militants attacked BJP District Vice President, Ganderbal, Ghulam Qadir Rather, late on Tuesday evening. “The SPOs, guarding the BJP leader, retaliated ensuing in a brief exchange of fire,” they said.
They said an unidentified militant was killed while an SPO, identified as Constable Altaf Ahmad, was injured in the firing. “Additional security forces have been rushed and the area has been sealed,” they said, adding a search operation has been launched to sanitize the area.
“The injured has been rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed,” they added.
