Prime Minister Narendra Modi There is a fresh deadline for six major infrastructure Projects in the major metros of Delhi and Mumbai as well as J & K’s Union Territory which they reviewed last week, between mid-2021 and 2025.
The largest of the projects is 272 km long Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway Jammu and Kashmir will have a Rs 28,000 crore line Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. The PM directed the Railway Ministry to expedite the execution of the project and complete it by 31 July 2022, as per the minutes of the meeting, a copy of it was seen by ET.
Jammu and Kashmir has been instructed to acquire and expeditiously hand over all the remaining land for the project and to resolve the issue of sand and total mining by 15 January. It is the largest rail project being built since independence in the hilly region and the alignment involves construction of a large one. Number of tunnels and bridges in highly rugged and complex Himalayan geology.
The PM fixed on 31 January 2023, set a deadline to complete the 355 km Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway and asked the Gujarat and Maharashtra governments to hand over all remaining land for the project by 31 March this year. The environment minister was also asked to expeditiously process the proposal for forest clearance for the project.
At the December 30 meeting, the PM also fixed on June 30, 2021, the deadline for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to complete Phase-1 and Phase-2 and April 30, 2022, and September 30, 2022, The timeframe for completion of phase-3 and phase-4 of Dwarka Expressway in Delhi respectively.
The PM also reviewed the Phase-II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project and the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). He asked the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to work in coordination with the Gujarat government to complete the execution and complete Phase-1 (40 km) of Ahmedabad Metro by 31 July next year and Phase-2 (by 31 March) 28 km), 2024.
Gujarat was asked to hand over the remaining land by March 31 this year and resolve the issue of foreign funding quickly. The Railways and the Government of Maharashtra were asked to complete Phase-2 of the MUTP and hand over all the land by 31 March 2022 this year.
An important project that was reviewed before the West Bengal assembly elections was the 18-km-long Naupara-Barasat metro project in Kolkata. “All the issues in Phase-1 and Phase-2 have been resolved, the Ministry of Railways should speed up execution to complete Phase-1 by December 31, 2022 and Phase-2 by December 31, 2025 should do. The Ministry of Railways and the Government of West Bengal can explore the possibility of underground metro-rail corridor for Phase-3 of the project, ”said Minutes.
