Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of novel Coronavirus infection, officially called Covid-19.
Modi will address the nation on Thursday at 8 pm, during which he will talk about issues relating to Covid-19 and the efforts being undertaken to combat it.
He discussed ways to further strengthen India’s prepared ness, including further enhancing of testing facilities, the government said in a statement.
Modi also emphasised on actively engaging with individuals,local communities and organisations in efforts to curb the outbreak. He also urged officials and technical exports to deliberate on the steps to be taken next, the statement said.
Since the outbreak originated in China in December, Covid-19has spread to over 100 countries infecting more than 200,000 people and killing 8,249 people, according to John Hopkins University's live tracker of thepandemic.
In India, there have been three deaths so far— one each inKarnataka, Delhi and Maharashtra.
On Thursday, a 34-year-old suspected coronavirus patientcommitted suicide by jumping from the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, accordingto a Delhi police statement.
