A DPR for Jammu and Srinagar metro rail project have been submitted to the Chairman of Mass Rapid Transport Corporation by the CEO after completion of preliminary survey.
As per the survey Completed by the CEO Rajeev Ranjan, there is a dire need to augment public transport to cater to the growing travel demand of the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar. Since the road capacity is not adequate and the quality of public transport is not upto the mark, the Metro rail shall act as a catalyst to improve the citys' economy. 
In Jammu and Srinagar Light Rail metro has been proposed with a maximum speed of 80 Km/hr and coach capacity of 200 people with 3 coaches in each train.
In Jammu the metro has been proposed from Bantalab to Greater Kailash and in Srinagar the metro has been proposed from HMt junction to Indira Nagar and from Osmanabad to Haziri Bagh.
