Sarpanchs and Panchs on Friday staged a dharna in Srinagar demanding insurance cover and compassionate appointment for next of kin of ''martyred'' Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members.
Holding placards which reads ''insure all sarpanchs and panchs'' and ''compassionate appointment for martyred panchs and sarpanchs''.
Raising slogans in favour of their demands they said due to threat perception, insurance cover for all sarpanchs and panchs is necessary.
They said a number of members of PRI have been killed by gunmen. ''We demand compassionate appointment of their next of kin under SRO 43.''They later dispersed peacefully after registering their protest.
