Police on Thursday claimed to have recovered stolen service weapon in Jammu and arrested a burglar involved in the act.
Police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency  said that on 21-01-2021, a complaint regarding service weapon theft was lodged in Police Post Sarwal by ASI Ali Muhammad Wani of JKAP 7th Bn presently posted at Manwal (Sangar).
The complainant told that he kept his service weapon in a briefcase at his rental house at New Plot and when he came back from market, he found his briefcase broken up and weapon was missing.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 17/2021 under section 454/380 IPC was registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, police said, adding that special teams of Police Station Bakshi Nagar under the supervision of SP North P D Nitya were constituted.
The team led by SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Manjeet Singh started an all-round investigation using all the possible means and led to rounding up of suspect namely Ranjeet Singh @ Raju S/O Balbir Singh R/O New Plot Jammu, the statement said.
“During sustained questioning, the suspect confessed his involvement in the said case. Also upon his disclosure stolen service weapon (Pistol) along with 9mm 35 cartages were recovered. The arrest was made by SHO P/S Bakshi Nagar Inspector Manjeet Singh,” police said.
The statement added that further investigation is going on to ascertain their involvement in any other case
