Security forceskilled three terrorists in an ongoing gun battle in Zadibal area of Jammu andKashmir’s Srinagar city, officials said on Sunday.

ZadibalEncounterUpdate:Third terrorist killed. Search operation going on. Further details shallfollow,” Kashmir Zone police tweeted.

The encounterbetween terrorists and security forces had erupted after a cordon and searchoperation was launched in Zadibal and Zoonimar Pozwalpora localities followinginputs about their presence in the areas.

At least threeterrorists were believed to be trapped, according to officials. Mobile internetservices have been suspended in the Srinagar city, they said.Police saidparents of the trapped terrorists were brought to the encounter site and askedto surrender but they refused to do so.

“Through oursources, we go to know of their identity and called their parents who appealedto them to surrender. But they didn’t relent,” Vijay Kumar, inspector generalof police in Kashmir, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.“Two of them areactive since 2019. One was involved in attack on two BSF (Border SecurityForce) jawans last month,” Kumar added.

This is the secondencounter in Srinagar in the just over a month.

In May, securityforces had gunned two terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen, including the son ofa Kashmiri separatist leader, after an hours-long gunbattle on in Nawa Kadallocality of Srinagar.

More than a dozenhouses were also damaged in the blaze that erupted after several blasts andexchange of fire between terrorists and security forces during a 12-hourencounter in Nawa Kadal area on May 19.The gunbattle had started the previousday.

Three personnel ofthe Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a policeman were also injuredduring the encounter.
