A woman was injured when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan opened fire at a vehicle after it ignored signal to stop at a checkpoint in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Saturday, a police spokesman said.
One person driving the vehicle was arrested and vehicle seized, he said.
He said CRPF jawan at a checkpoint signaled a private car to stop at Padamgmpora bridge checkpoint in Awantipora in Pulwama this afternoon. However, the driver instead of stopping the car, fled away, he said adding CRPF jawan fired aerial warning shots which had no impact on driver who continued to drive. Later, jawan fired to target the tyre of the vehicle, he said adding a woman travelling in the car identified as Jaisi Parvaiz Sheikh, daughter of Parvaiz Ahmed Sheikh, resident of Murran Pulwama received a bullet in the arm.
He said earlier the same car had hit and injured a Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) Naserullah at another checkpoint at Awantipora chowk when he signaled him to stop.
Junaid Tariq Dar son of Tariq Ahmed Dar, a resident of Bedalpora, Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, who was driving the vehicle was arrested, he said adding the vehicle has also been seized.
A case FIR No.48/2021 has been registered under relevant sections of law into the incident and investigation is in progress, he said.
