A young boxer from remote district of Poonch, Mohd Zahir today qualified for the semifinals thereby ensured a medal in the ongoing Sub-Junior National Boxing Championship at Rohtak in Haryana.
To reach the last four stages in 52 kg weight category, Zahir defeated three boxers in the preliminary rounds. “In the important quarterfinal bout, Zahir defeated a Bihar boxer. Earlier, in the first round and pre-quarterfinal stages, Zahir outplayed Naman Sharma of Rajesthan and Badal of Himachal Pradesh respectively,” general secretary of J&K Amature Boxing Association, Rajan Sharma told SAN.
Important to mention here that the Association for the first time organised the coaching camp at district Poonch to train the boxers in quality environs.
