Doda:Four army personnel including a Major-rank officer succumbed to their injuries after an encounter on Monday night in Doda district’s Desa forests in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that at least five soldiers sustained bullet injuries after they chased terrorists into the forests who fled after a brief encounter with them.
They were evacuated to the hospital but four of them later succumbed to injuries.
The Nagrota-based White Knight Corps, citing initial reports, had confirmed “injuries to our brave hearts”, but did not give details about the injured. It posted on its official handle on ‘X’ that “contact with terrorists was established at about 2100 hrs in which heavy firefight ensued”.
“Additional reinforcements have been moved into the area. Operations are in progress,” it added.
Sources, however, had said that the injured included a Major rank officer.
The encounter started after terrorists hiding inside the forests suddenly opened fire on a security forces party, which was carrying out searches in the area.
The security forces retaliated and the exchange of fire between two sides continued for nearly half an hour. Since then, there has been no firing from terrorists’ side.
Following spurt in incidents of terror attacks and reports about movement of terrorists from different places in Jammu division, the police and security forces have launched joint combing and search operations at a massive scale in various parts of the division.
