Srinagar :
More than five months since they were detained, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday released five politicians who had been placed in preventive detention since 5 August— the day the Centre abrogated provisions of Article 370.
The release of the former legislators comes almost two months after the administration had decided to release a few leaders on condition that they would not, upon their release, attempt to disrupt peace.Earlier in October, the administration had released three politicians of the erstwhile state.
While more than 30 leaders including three former chief ministers have been in detention since 5 August, the administration – a person familiar with the developments said – is likely to review more releases soon.
However, former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah continue to remain under detention, while NC chief Farooq Abdullah has been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). No decision has yet been taken on their probable release.
