Neeraj Chopra bags gold medal, Jena silver in spectacular show at Asian Games

New Delhi:India's star athlete Neeraj Chopra reasserted his dominance in the men's javelin throw final event at the ongoing Asian Games 2023, surpassing his compatriot Kishore Jena to clinch the gold medal.
Chopra delivered a spectacular performance, achieving his season-best distance of 88.88 meters, outshining Jena's personal best of 86.77 meters.
In an event marked by intense competition, Chopra's remarkable achievement was momentarily marred by a technical malfunction during his first attempt. Although he executed a brilliant throw, the distance could not be officially recorded due to the glitch. However, undeterred by the setback, Chopra showcased his exceptional skills in subsequent attempts, securing the top position with his impressive throw of 88.88 meters.
Kishore Jena, another talented Indian javelin thrower, demonstrated his prowess by achieving a personal best distance of 87.54 meters, earning him the silver medal. The podium was completed by Japan's Genki Dean, who won the bronze medal with his best throw reaching 82.68 meters.
Meanwhile, India's Harmilan Bains (women's 800m), Avinash Sable (men's 5000m) and women's 4x400m relay teams have won silver medals.
