A senior officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Ms. Charu Sinha,IPS currently serving at the rank of Inspector General (IG), has come under scrutiny for allegedly misappropriating crores of rupees from the secret security fund allocated for anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley. The fund, intended to bolster operational effectiveness in counter-terrorism missions, was allegedly diverted through a network of shell companies to launder the money.
According to sources, the misappropriated funds were funneled into penny stocks — low-value shares of companies with minimal market activity. Investigations suggest that these penny stocks were linked to shell companies in which Sinha’s close relatives were members, raising concerns of nepotism and deliberate manipulation. By trading through these entities, the laundered money was shown as profits from share market activities, thereby concealing the illicit origin of the funds.
The allegations have sparked outrage, particularly given the critical nature of the funds, which are meant to support troops engaged in high-risk operations against terrorism in the conflict-ridden region. The misuse of these resources, if proven true, could severely impact the operational readiness and morale of security forces on the ground.
