Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar-IPS, on Sunday conducted extensive security and operational review visits to District Pulwama and Police District Awantipora, assessing the prevailing security situation, counter-terror operations, crime disposal and law-and-order scenario.
The IGP was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range Anantnag, Javed Iqbal Mattoo-IPS. During the visit, the IGP chaired high-level review meetings with senior police officers to assess operational preparedness and the overall security matrix across both jurisdictions.
The concerned Senior Superintendents of Police, Additional SPs, SDPOs and DySPs of Special Operations Group (SOG) briefed the visiting officer about operational readiness, local crime dynamics, strategic deployments and ongoing security measures.
During the meetings, IGP Kashmir directed officers to maintain a focused approach towards both kinetic and non-kinetic counter-terror operations. He stressed the need for seamless coordination among security and law-enforcement agencies and called for scaling up intelligence-led operations to effectively deal with emerging security challenges.
The IGP further directed officers to adopt a proactive approach against anti-national elements and strengthen preventive policing measures to ensure sustained peace and stability in the region.
He also emphasized the importance of enhanced surveillance, protection of vital installations, and foolproof security arrangements around vulnerable locations and protected persons.
Zero Tolerance Against Narcotics
Reiterating the police department’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and illicit networks, IGP Kashmir directed officers to intensify anti-drug drives and take strict legal action against chronic offenders and those involved in drug-related activities.
He called for sustained efforts to disrupt illicit networks and strengthen enforcement measures aimed at curbing drug abuse and trafficking.
Focus on People-Friendly Policing
Emphasizing the importance of community engagement, the IGP called upon officers to ensure compassionate, professional and people-friendly policing.
He stressed the need for prompt redressal of public grievances and greater engagement with local communities to strengthen public trust and confidence in law enforcement agencies.
At the conclusion of the meetings, IGP Kashmir appreciated the commitment, alertness and professionalism demonstrated by police officers and personnel deployed on the ground.
He urged all ranks to remain disciplined, mission-oriented and prepared for an immediate response to any emerging security challenge.
