Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken strong exception to the alleged conduct of a senior IAS officer during an online government meeting, a video of which is circulating on social media.
Reacting to the video, Omar Abdullah said that the officer’s conduct, at first glance, did not meet the standards expected of a senior IAS officer. He also expressed concern over the subsequent threats allegedly issued to a junior Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer, saying that the matter had become more serious.
The Chief Minister said he had taken up the issue with the Chief Secretary in the strongest possible terms and urged the administration to ensure that the junior officer does not face any retaliatory action.
Omar Abdullah also highlighted the administrative limitations faced by the elected government in matters concerning IAS officers in the Union Territory. He stated that control over IAS officers rests with Lok Bhavan, while clarifying that he had instructed the Chief Secretary to ensure the safety of the JKAS officer’s professional interests.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid public attention surrounding the viral video and the allegations of threats against the junior officer. His intervention underscores the need for professional conduct, accountability and a workplace environment free from intimidation.
The Chief Minister has assured that the JKAS officer should not face any retributive action in connection with the matter.
