UP Govt bans sale of Halal certified products with immediate effect

UTTAR PRADESH:

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday banned Halal-certified food and medicines in a bid to control the unauthorized practice of granting 'Halal certificates'.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police registered cases against several companies for allegedly selling Halal-certified products using forged documents to gain financial benefits in the name of religion. A Halal certificate indicates that a product has been prepared in accordance with Islamic law.

Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halala Council of India Mumbai, and Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra Mumbai are some of the companies mentioned in the FIR against whom cases have been registered.
