The 151st birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Late Sh. Mahatma Gandhi ji was celebrated with full enthusiasm at Ward No. 55 Gangyal Jammu.
Th. Jai Singh Sr. Congress leader was the main organizer of the function. On this occasion Th. Jai Singh pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi ji and told about his achievements. Mahatma Gandhi played an important role in India struggle for Independence against British rule of India. Gandhiji major achievements was in 1918 when he led the Champaran and Kheda agitations of Bihar and Gujarat.
He also led Non Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, Swaraj and Quit India Movement against the British Govt. Gandhiji identified his overall method of non violent action as Satyagraha. He was also an instrumental in abolishing the age old practice of untouchability. On June 15 2007, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that declare October 2 as International Day of Non Violence.
