The Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, successfully concluded the 11th National Conference and Exhibition on Emerging and Innovative Trends in Engineering Technology (NCEEITET) here today.The two day event, organized in technical collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, was attended by the academicians, industry experts, policymakers and students from across the country to deliberate on the emerging trends, foster innovation and explore new research avenues in engineering and technology.
The valedictory function of the event was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Power Development Department Ashwani Kumar. The event was also marked the prize distribution and award ceremony.
In his address, the ACS described the event as a vital platform for promoting innovation, research and interdisciplinary collaboration. He described the technology display exhibits as both engrossing and innovative, appreciating the students’ keen enthusiasm. He said such hands-on experience would be crucial in shaping their future careers. He added that practical exposure and technological innovation are essential to realize the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.Highlighting the theme of the conference, “Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in Tourism Development in Jammu & Kashmir”, Ashwani Kumar stated that it is highly relevant as the integration of AI and ML can significantly enhance the tourism planning, management and overall visitor experience.
The ACS further emphasized that in today’s governance framework, every department requires technical inputs in one form or another to improve efficiency. In this context, he observed that institutions like GCET Jammu and its students can play a pivotal role in providing innovative technological solutions across sectors such as power, tourism and infrastructure development.
Managing Director, JKPDC, Rahul Yadav, who is also the guest of honour, shared valuable insights on the emerging technologies, with a special focus on their practical applications in the power sector. He highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and field-level implementation. He encouraged the students to work on solution-oriented, real-world engineering challenges.Professor Raja Dutta and Professor Prabir Kumar Biswas from IIT Kharagpur emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary approach to effectively integrate technology with the socio-economic needs of society.
The IIT Kharagpur team also praised the talent of GCET students, commending their enthusiasm and eagerness to contribute. He assured continued support for their future research endeavours.
The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation through technical sessions, expert talks, panel discussions, paper presentations and a technology exhibition showcasing cutting-edge ideas and solutions. It served as an effective platform for knowledge exchange and exploration of emerging technologies.Reputed organizations and companies including NHPC, CVPPL, NTPC, PFC, NIELIT, BSNL, IEX, Schneider Electric, Patel Engineering Ltd., JKPDC, Alba Power, J&K Bank, BEE-4E Wave, JAKEDA, among others, participated and displayed their exhibits showcasing the emerging technologies in their respective domains. Besides, interactive sessions between the students and industry representatives provided valuable exposure to the latest scientific innovations and technological advancements.
Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal/Director GCET in her concluding remarks, stated that knowledge gained and connections built during this conference will go a long way in shaping the future research, innovation and professional growth of all the participants and delegates from different parts of the country.
Among others the function was attended by Habib Chowdhary, MD JKPTCL, Vivek Sharma and Saurab Sarn, IIM Jammu, Dr. Raj Kumar, IIT Jammu, Er. Ishan Verma, Director J&K Start-up Association and other senior Executives from industries/CPSUs.
