India's premier border guarding force BSF has recorded third death with one of its Constable succumbing to novel coronavirus infection on June 9 here, officials on Wednesday said.
Constable Vinod Kumar Prasad, deployed for Law and Order duty with Delhi police, was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi on June 5 with complaints of weakness and cough. His samples taken for COVID-19 on June 6 were found negative but his condition deteriorated on June 8 and breathed his last on Tuesday in AIIMS's Intensive Care Unit. According to the officials,his COVID-19 sample tested on June 8 was positive.
The deceased constable is survived by his parents, wife and son.
"Director General and all ranks of BSF are grief stricken at his untimely demise and offer condolences to his family members. Entire Prahari Pariwar stands united with the bereaved family in this trying times", the BSF said in a statement.
The Force has also informed that there are 100 active patients of COVID 19 who are being treated at different hospitals and so far 435 BSF personnel have been recovered from this deadly disease.
This is the third death due to COVID-19 in BSF which has over 2.57 lakh personnel and 13th among all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has reported four deaths, the Central Reserve Police Force four, two and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) one each.
The CAPFs, as per latest data, had over 1,550 coronavirus cases, out of which more than 1,100 have recovered.
