Security forces on Saturday arrested a militant associate along with arms and ammunition in Handwara in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
A police official said that following specific information about movement of militants, a joint team of police, 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 92 battalion of CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation in orchards of village Mandigam Kralgung in Handwara.
“During search, one person was found in suspicious condition, who on seeing the search party tried to escape from the spot but was chased and apprehended by the search party,” he said.
He said the apprehended person on preliminary questioning disclosed his identity as Akeel Ahmad Parray, a resident of Mandigam Kralgund. “Arms and ammunitions were recovered from his possession during his checking,” he said.
During questioning, he said the accused confessed of working with militant outfit LeT as an associate. “In this context, case FIR No. 90/2020 U/s 7/25 I.A.Act., 16,18,20 ULAP Act has been registered in Police Station Kralgund. Further investigation into the matter is under process,” he said.
