Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a woman who hanged her sarpanch husband with the help of another person and later claimed he committed suicide in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
He said on October 12, Police Post (PP) Aloosa in Bandipora received an information that one sarpanch Javid Ahmad Dar has committed suicide at his home at village Zurmanz. However, police registered a case and initiated proceedings.
Suspecting some foul play, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bandipora constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) headquarter Bandipora.
He said many suspected persons were questioned by SIT during which it came to light that wife of the Dar with help of another person, Shahzad Ahmad Dar administered some sedative drugs to sarpanch before strangulatinh him to death.
Wife of deceased and Shahzad were involved in an extramarital affair, he said.
Consequently case FIR Number 116/2020 Under Section 302 IPC was registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation was taken up, he said adding both accused have admitted their crime and have been arrested,. Further investigation is going on, he added.
