The Jammu and Kashmir government has made Aadhaar authentication mandatory for beneficiaries registering on the Union Territory’s Drug De-addiction Registry Portal (DDRP), officials said on Monday.
An order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department said beneficiaries seeking treatment through the portal will have to authenticate their identity using Aadhaar or provide proof of Aadhaar enrolment. The DDRP, maintained by the State Drug Controller Office under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) mechanism, maintains records of patients undergoing de-addiction treatment and regulates the supply of psychotropic medicines prescribed during rehabilitation programmes.
Officials said the registry covers treatment, counselling, rehabilitation and the distribution of medicines. The move is aimed at streamlining patient records, preventing duplicate registrations and strengthening monitoring of de-addiction services.
The order, however, said patients who do not possess Aadhaar will continue to receive treatment while completing the enrolment process, ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is denied healthcare services.
Officials said the decision is expected to improve transparency and accountability in the delivery of government-supported de-addiction treatment and medicines.
