The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated with great devotion on the Trayodashi (13th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month. In this regard, Mahant Rohit Shastri, Jyotishacharya and President of Shri Kailakh Jyotish avim Vedic Sansthan Trust, has informed that in the year 2025, the Trayodashi tithi will begin on Saturday, October 18 at 12:20 PM and will end on Sunday, October 19 at 1:52 PM.
As per scriptures, the worship of Dhanteras should be performed during the Pradosh Kaal. Since October 18 falls on Trayodashi and also includes the Pradosh Kaal, the festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18.
Pradosh Kaal:
From 5:44 PM to 8:14 PM
On Dhanteras, Yamaraj, Lord Dhanvantari, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, and Lord Kuber should be worshipped. Additionally, this year Dhanteras coincides with Bhaum Pradosh Vrat (Tuesday Pradosh) which further enhances its spiritual significance.

Dhanteras Puja Vidhi (Worship Method):
1. Begin with self-purification and self-worship (Atma Poojan).
2. Purify the worship area using Ganga Jal (holy water).
3. Draw a Swastik symbol on a wooden platform.
4. Worship Lord Dhanvantari, Lakshmi-Narayan, and Lord Ganesha.
5. In the evening, light a mustard oil lamp on a roti or puri.
6. Apply roli (red powder) and rice on the lamp and offer some sweets as bhog.
7. Offer some coins or money to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha.
8. After taking blessings from the lamp, place it outside your main entrance, facing south. This is known as Yam Deep Daan, a ritual believed to protect from untimely death.
---
Mantra for Deep Daan:
"Mrityuna Pasha Dandabhyaam Kaalena Cha Maya Sah,
Trayodashyam Deepadaanat Suryajah Preeyataamiti?"
Meaning:
By donating a lamp on the Trayodashi tithi, one receives protection from death, bondage, punishment, and time itself. Lord Yama (the son of the Sun) becomes pleased, and Goddess Lakshmi also bestows her blessings.

Mythological Significance of Dhanteras:
As per Mahant Rohit Shastri, Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) on the Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha carrying the nectar of immortality (Amrit Kalash). He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who appeared to promote the science of Ayurveda. Hence, buying utensils (especially brass items) on this day is considered highly auspicious and fruitful.
---
Important Points to Remember:
Do not bring empty utensils home. Fill them with water, which is seen as a symbol of prosperity.
Avoid purchasing utensils made of iron, steel, or glass.
