The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Saturday issued a high-weather alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall between July 19 and 23, with the most intense spell expected from July 20-23, officials said.
Citing a forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Srinagar, the advisory accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) cautioned that isolated areas could experience brief intense showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, potentially triggering flash floods, landslides, mudslides, waterlogging, and a sharp rise in water levels of rivers and streams, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable belts.
"The situation is likely to worsen between July 20 and 23. We have directed all concerned departments—including PWD, PMGSY, Police, Health, SDRF, and Agriculture—to remain on high alert and ensure rapid response mechanisms," a senior DDMA official told KNS.
The advisory flagged major disruption risks on NH-44 (Jammu–Srinagar highway) , as well as the Ramnagar–Basantgarh–Latti road and other link roads, due to landslides, shooting stones, and slippery road conditions.
Hilly terrains in Ramnagar, Chenani, Latti-Dudu, Panchari, Moungri, and Basantgarh have been identified as high-risk zones for mudslides and rockfalls.
In a directive to the farming community, authorities have advised all agriculturists and orchardists to halt all farm operations—including harvesting, spraying, and irrigation—from July 19 to 23 to prevent damage to crops and livestock.
The DDMA has appealed to the general public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly areas, and to confirm road status before undertaking any journey on NH-44 or other district roads. People have also been advised to stay away from landslide-prone spots, nallahs, and riverbanks.

"The administration is fully prepared. We urge citizens to cooperate and follow safety advisories," the official added.
