IEI celebrated Energy Conservation Day

The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated Energy Conservation Day at Institutional Complex, Sector -3, Channi Himmat, Jammu. The function was attended by Engineers from various Departments, Organizations and Senior Engineers along with Members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu Local Centre.

On this occasion, Er. Jagmohan Sharma, Chairman, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd., Power Development Department – J&K Govt., Former Executive Director, POWERGRID & Former CEO, Aster Pvt. Ltd. was the Chief Guest whereas Er. Anil Verma, FIE; Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre presided over the function.

At the outset, Er. Anil Verma, Chairman presented the Welcome Address and laid emphasis on this year’s theme “Powering sustainability – Every Watt Counts”. He requested everyone to use power judiciously and take advantage of smart meters in budgeting and planning the daily power usage.

It was followed by Keynote Address by Er. Sanjeev Rohmetra, Executive Engineer, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd., Power Development Department - J&K Govt. who co-incidentally is the Nodal Officer for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana for JPDCL. He presented a detailed scenario of India’s energy demand and continuous growth in contribution of renewal energy resources in meeting the energy needs of the country. Pertinently, pamphlets of PM Surya Ghar MBY were also got distributed by him amongst the audience.

Er. Jagmohan Sharma, Chief Guest touched the vital points regarding energy conservation and highlighted the importance of saving every watt of energy for a secure future. He also advocated for solar power and requested the house to spread this word for improving energy security of the country. He also spoke about power generation scenario of J&K vis-à-vis energy consumption patterns & highlighted the significance of every small effort by citizens in conserving energy.

Er. Avneet Gupta, MIE; Honorary Secretary, while presenting vote of thanks opined that when we limit our energy usage, we lower our impact on the environment & requested for adopting sustainable measures to avoid energy wastage. He also thanked the media personnel for their coverage of the function.
