IGNOU celebrated its 39thFoundation Day today. The main function was organized at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi in which the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Uma Kanjilal delivered the presidential lecture. The live telecast of the event was webcasted on Gyandarshan and YouTube. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Education, Government of India was the Chief Guest of the event. Besides, Prof T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE also shared his insights during the foundation day lecture.
Regional Centre Jammu also celebrated the Foundation day with great enthusiasm. The celebrations, here at RC Jammu, started with watching the live webcast of the function from the New Delhi Delhi Hqrs. which was followed by Deep Prajwalan. Dr. Shreedhar Mishra, Director Central Sanskrit University Jammu, was the Chief Guest of the event at Jammu.Dr. Vipin Kumar Sharma, In-Charge Research Officer (Ay), Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Jammu and Shri Jai Prakash, Executive Engineer, CPWD Jammu were the special Guests of the event.
All the staff members of IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu including Regional Director, Dr. Jai Prakash Verma, Assistant Regional Directors-Dr. Sandeep Gupta and Dr. Vikram Singh and Deputy Registrar, S. T P Singh and Assistant Registrar Shri Dara Singh were present on the occasion. Agroup of students from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Jammu also participated in the event.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Shreedhar Mishra, shared his views on association with IGNOU and congratulated the Regional Director and staff for their best efforts in making the presence of IGNOU in every nook and corner in the region. He appreciated the role of University in augmenting the Indian Knowledge System by promoting the programmes in Sanskrit, Jyotish, Vedic Studies, Bhagvad Gita, etc.
Regional Director, Dr. Jai Prakash Verma, in his address, informed about the continuous upgradation of special initiatives that Regional Centre has taken to strengthen students support services in the region. He informed that Regional Centre Jammu has marked its presence in the remotest parts of region by enrolling a record percentage of learners from the far flung rural areas in 2023 as well as 2024 academic years. Dr. Verma appreciated the role of Regional Centre staff for their tireless efforts in making the Jammu Regional Centre one of the best RCs in the entire country.
To commemorate the event, a plantation drive was also carried out at the Regional Centre campus at Bantalab in which a variety of saplings were planted by the Officials of the RC and also by the dignitaries.
