Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi chaired a high-level meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess security and logistical preparations for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY).
During the meeting, district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) presented detailed briefings on security measures, deployment plans, traffic management, crowd regulation and other arrangements related to Eid festivities and the annual pilgrimage.
Stressing the need for peaceful celebrations across the Valley, the IGP directed officers to ensure proper crowd management at mosques and key congregation sites. He instructed officials to reinforce security at entry and exit points, deploy sufficient personnel at sensitive areas and take adequate measures to avoid overcrowding during prayers and gatherings.
Birdi also asked officers to step up surveillance, intensify patrolling and carry out random checking at vulnerable locations to thwart any potential security threat during the festive period.
Reviewing preparations for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the IGP emphasised coordinated planning and enhanced preparedness to ensure the safety of pilgrims. He directed officers to strengthen security arrangements along both Yatra routes and deploy Anti-Sabotage Teams to minimise possible risks.
He further instructed officials to utilise advanced technology and real-time monitoring systems for better surveillance and improved threat detection during the pilgrimage.
The IGP also stressed strict implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and called for close coordination among all stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of effective contingency planning to tackle any unforeseen situation during the Yatra.
The meeting concluded with officers reaffirming their commitment to ensuring comprehensive security and the well-being of residents, pilgrims and visitors during Eid-ul-Adha and the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Senior officers, including DIsG of IR Kashmir, CKR Srinagar, Traffic Kashmir, SKR Anantnag, Armed Kashmir, district SSsP of Kashmir Zone, SSP PCR Kashmir, Traffic Rural Kashmir, CID SB Kashmir, Telecom Kashmir, SDRF officials and other senior police officers, attended the meeting.
