Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (January 18, 2025) ordered the constitution of an inter-Ministerial team led by the Ministry of Home Affairs to visit and ascertain the cause of mysterious deaths in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district over the past six weeks.
At least 16 people have died under mysterious circumstances in Rajouri district since December 2024, and three such deaths were reported in just the last four days. J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to address the “alarming situation”. 
Precautionary measures
The MHA-led team will include experts from the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Water Resources. It will also be assisted by experts from animal husbandry, food safety and forensic science laboratories, the MHA said. 
The team will visit the area on January 19 and will collaborate with the local administration to provide immediate relief as well as taking precautionary measures to prevent such incidents in future.
Experts from some of the most reputed institutions of the country have been arranged to manage the situation and understand the causative factors of the deaths, the MHA said.
