The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the reopening of tourist destinations Doodpathri and Yousmarg is subject to security considerations beyond the mandate of the Tourism Department, adding that the issue has been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner Budgam for appropriate action.In response to a question tabled by MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, the government said the matter has already been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner Budgam for appropriate action.
In response to another query, the government said recent incidents in the tourism sector have adversely affected tourist flow in Jammu and Kashmir, thereby impacting the livelihood of stakeholders associated with the sector.
The government further said that to revive tourism in the Union Territory, the department has undertaken promotional campaigns, infrastructure upgradation and confidence-building measures. It added that a series of promotional events and thematic festivals have been organized across the country and within the UT, and the current winter tourist season is witnessing heightened activity—(KNO)
