Jammu Municipal Corporation has launched a comprehensive initiative to restore and revitalize the traditional water bodies under its jurisdiction. With ponds, wells and traditional water sources rapidly disappearing due to urbanization and increasing aridity, the Municipal Corporation is committed to conserving natural resources and raising public awareness about their importance.
Taking a major step towards the conservation of traditional water ponds, the Jammu Municipal Corporation continues to strengthen its efforts. Today, in Ward No. 75, Durgochak area of Sangrampur, MLA Surendra Kumar, along with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, laid the foundation stone for the conservation and complete restoration of a historic pond.
A total of Rs. 23.36 lakh has been earmarked for the project. The rejuvenation plan includes cleaning the pond, installing guardrails, constructing a walkway around the pond, planting ornamental plants, and developing high-quality green banks. The aim is to restore the ecological balance of the water body and transform it into a clean, green and attractive recreational spot for the local community.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA urged people to maintain cleanliness around water bodies, avoid dumping garbage and participate actively in the conservation of natural sources of water. He emphasized that the preservation of ponds and other water bodies is a collective responsibility and called upon the local community to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation in maintaining such assets.
On this occasion, 300 streetlights were also handed over for installation in the ward. The Municipal Commissioner said that the Corporation is working diligently to upgrade civic infrastructure and improve facilities across all wards. He added that the installation of streetlights across the city is progressing rapidly to illuminate streets, enhance public safety and improve the overall urban environment.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Joint Commissioner (W) Firdous Ahmad Qazi, Executive Engineer Electrical, Simarpal Singh, Executive Engineer Division III, Akhil Dutt and other officials.
