Under the directions of Dr Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), a sealing drive was conducted today against illegal pet shops operating within the jurisdiction of JMC. The drive was led by Dr. Gourav Chowdhary, Animal Welfare Officer, JMC, along with Dr. Divya, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, and the Enforcement Section of JMC.
During the operation, three unregistered pet shops were sealed for non-compliance with the provisions of registration as mandated by JMC.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Gourav Chowdhary informed that these pet shops, along with several others, had been served notices by JMC in February 2025, directing them to obtain mandatory registration. However, despite the lapse of the notice period, the owners failed to comply, leaving the corporation no option but to initiate enforcement action.
Dr. Gourav Chowdhary reiterated that similar action will continue against all illegal pet shop operators and unregistered dog breeders. He urged all such establishments to abide by the legal framework and get themselves registered with JMC at the earliest to avoid punitive action.
The JMC remains committed to regulating pet trade in the city in line with animal welfare laws and ensuring the health and safety of animals and the public.
