Rajya Sabha Member and senior BJP leader Gulam Ali Khatana today met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi for a detailed discussion on the prevailing security situation, border management, and welfare initiatives for soldiers and citizens residing in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the interaction, Khatana highlighted the critical strategic importance of Jammu & Kashmir as the frontline of India’s defence. He commended the Indian Army and security forces for their relentless dedication in maintaining peace, stability, and national integrity in the Union Territory. The MP briefed the Defence Minister on the ground realities along the Line of Control (LoC) and emphasized the need for enhanced infrastructure and welfare facilities for both defence personnel and border residents.
He urged for accelerated deployment of modern surveillance systems, anti-drone technology, and improved road connectivity in forward areas to further strengthen border management. Khatana also advocated for the construction of additional community bunkers, improved civilian infrastructure, and comprehensive support for displaced and border families affected by cross-border firing.
Reiterating the importance of balanced regional development, Khatana called for sustained implementation of the Border Area Development Programme (BADP)—focusing on education, healthcare, digital inclusion, and employment opportunities for youth in border villages. He also suggested expanding recruitment drives for local youth into defence and paramilitary forces, channeling their energy toward national service and capacity building.
Addressing welfare measures for serving and retired personnel, the MP proposed enhanced facilities under the Sainik Welfare Department, including housing support, educational scholarships, and skill development programs for ex-servicemen and dependents of martyrs and war widows.
The Defence Minister appreciated Khatana’s consistent engagement with grassroots issues and lauded his commitment to the welfare and security of border communities. Rajnath Singh assured full cooperation from the Ministry of Defence in strengthening border infrastructure, national security frameworks, and soldier welfare systems.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful, secure, and developed Jammu & Kashmir.
Khatana expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Defence Minister for his continued guidance and proactive leadership in advancing the cause of security and development across Jammu & Kashmir’s border regions.
