Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir President and former minister Sat Sharma (CA) interacted with the residents of various panchayats in Marh Assembly Constituency, listening to their concerns and assuring them that the party stands firmly by their side in this hour of crisis.
MLA Surinder Bhagat, District Prabhari Rajinder Singh Chib, senior leader Adv. Abhinav Sharma, besides district team members, Mandal Presidents, Sarpanches, Panches, and representatives of eleven severely affected panchayats, including Jaswa, Souhagidi, Kalyanpur, Datryal, Sari Rakwal, Sarore, Nai Basti, Channu Chak, Shama Chak, Panjod, and Rajpura participated in the meeting.
During the interaction, the representatives highlighted the wide-ranging devastation caused by the recent floods, loss of houses, damage to standing crops, soil erosion, destruction of irrigation canals, collapsing boundary walls, and disruption of rural infrastructure like roads, culverts, and power supply lines. The people also expressed distress over the loss of livestock and stored food grains, which has multiplied their woes.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma strongly stressed that “no affected family should be left unattended in this calamity. The administration must immediately ensure adequate relief, transparent listing of damages, and a time-bound plan for rehabilitation. Every affected household has the right to prompt compensation, and BJP will relentlessly pursue this until justice is delivered. The Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sensitive to the sufferings of the people, and we will make sure adequate support reaches the ground at the earliest.”
Sat Sharma also lauded the gesture of BJP MLAs and MPAs in diverting their funds to the tune of 35.5 Crore for the immediate relief to the affected population and asked the MLAs and MPs from other political parties to show empathy for the affected families.
Rajinder Singh Chib assured the gathering that BJP cadres will remain on the ground, documenting losses and assisting in the distribution of relief material. “Our aim is to ensure that no injustice is done while preparing damage lists,” he said.
Surinder Bhagat said that the unprecedented rains and flash floods have exposed the vulnerability of rural infrastructure. “The needs of the farmers and small households must be prioritized in relief operations. Their survival depends on immediate government attention,” he stated.
Adv. Abhinav Sharma emphasized the legal and administrative accountability in relief measures. He said that any negligence in compensating those who have lost their homes and livelihoods will not be targeted. Rehabilitation must be just, equitable, and swift, he remarked.
