As part of the ongoing National Service Scheme (NSS) Winter Camp organisedfrom March 24 to March 30, 2026, all the volunteers of NSS Unit 1, Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar Jammu, visited Government Middle School, Bhadrore, a rural area in Marh area of Jammu district, to carry out a meaningful awareness and community outreach programme.
The visit was organized under the guidance of the esteemed Principal Dr. Kulvinder Kaur and was led by Dr. Suraj Mohani Jamwal(NSS Programme Officer) who coordinated and facilitated the outreach to the village.
During the visit, NSS volunteers actively engaged with school students through a series of interactive and informative activities.
The team carried refreshments for the children and organized educational games to create a friendly and engaging environment. These activities were designed not only for enjoyment but also to spread awareness regarding Drug Addiction in a simple and impactful manner.
A major highlight of the programme was a powerful skit performed by the NSS volunteers, focusing on the growing issue of drug addiction in rural areas. Through this performance and subsequent interactive sessions and speeches, the volunteers emphasized the harmful effects of substance abuse, particularly among the youth, and encouraged the adoption of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
The programme was further strengthened by the presence of Mr. Rohit Abrol, JKSPYM, associated with a drug awareness initiative, who addressed the students and elaborated on the serious consequences of drug addiction, motivating them to stay away from such practices.
The school staff and panchayat members of the area extended full support and cooperation, expressing their happiness and appreciation for the efforts of the NSS team. The interaction created a warm and positive atmosphere, where both the school students and NSS volunteers shared moments of learning and joy.
The NSS volunteers expressed immense satisfaction in being able to spread awareness and bring smiles to the faces of the children, making the visit a truly fulfilling experience.
This initiative reflects the true spirit of NSS-"Not Me, But You"-and highlights the commitment of young volunteers towards addressing pressing social issues and contributing positively to society.
