One person lost his life and at least nine others were injured in a road accident in Banihal area of Ramban district on Monday.

An official told KNS that a Tata Mobile vehicle, carrying eleven members of two Bakarwal families from Tehsil Teryath in Rajouri, was on its way to Srinagar when it met with an accident near the railway bridge at Banihal. The vehicle reportedly turned turtle and collided with the bridge structure.

He said one passenger died on the spot, while nine others sustained injuries.A baby girl travelling with them escaped unhurt.

The injured were initially provided first aid at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal before being referred to GMC Anantnag for advanced medical care, the official added.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation.
