BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who is also the party incharge for J&K, today said that the Valley would take a big leap forward for economic growth of the region after the  the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved Rs. 1,677 crore for the expansion and development of the civil enclave at Srinagar International Airport.

Chugh said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre would continue  to prioritise connectivity and development in the Kashmir Valley. The proposed integrated terminal building, spread over 73 acres with a total built-up area of 71,500 square metres, will significantly enhance passenger capacity to 10 million annually and handle 2,900 passengers during peak hours. The augmentation of apron space to accommodate 15 aircraft, along with multi-level car parking for nearly 1,000 vehicles, will bring the airport infrastructure at par with global standards.

It would provide a major boost to tourism and economic activity in the region that has iconic places like Dal Lake, Shankaracharya Temple, and the Mughal Gardens. The project will also generate substantial employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases.

Chugh further appreciated the sustainability focus of the project, highlighting provisions for water harvesting, energy-efficient systems, eco-friendly materials, and the target of achieving a 5-star GRIHA rating. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for this transformative decision, stating that it reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to ushering in a new era of prosperity and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
